It is a beautiful day today. After voting at my voting place, I drove to Downingtown to buy a paper (my crossword puzzle pleasure of the day. Then I went for a bike ride on the Struble Trail. I love the trail. Aside from the Spring Beauties, Blood Root, Star of Bethlehem, Jack in the Pulpit, May Apples, and numerous birds, there are also people of all ages using the trail.

As is my wont, I checked out the areas subject to storm damage…Shamona Creek, and all the other little rills and streams that bisect the trail, I approached the area that was damaged and eroded a year ago and continues to erode away at each storm event. This is where the Buckeye Petroleum Pipe Line crosses underneath the Brandywine and rises up a steep embankment and crosses Shelmire Road. The erosion is so severe that the pipe line is almost exposed. About three weeks ago, I called Buckeye at their emergency center in Muscungie, PA and the pleasant gentleman I spoke to said that the company would get right on it. I explained that it was in the interests of the company to correct the problem because of the risk to their pipe line which I extensive.

After an enjoyable bike ride, I drove to Springton Manor to distribute flyers for the program at Brandywine Museum on May 17th. I spoke to Simon Phillips, Regional Park Ranger, who said that as soon as he had the OK from his superintendent, he would place them in the park kiosks, including the Struble Trail If you have never been to Springton Manor, GO!

Ranger Phillips and I discussed other issues at hand. I told him about my concerns regarding the pipe line and asked if he knew whom to contact. The protocols are not clear. I volunteered the services of the League as well.

I also mentioned signage I had seen elsewhere protecting people in crosswalks and suggested that they could be put to good use on the Struble Trail where it crosses public roads.

I will follow this up with photos as soon as I remember to take my digital camera with me.
