Be a Water Watcher!

The healthyfrog would like to invite all Chester County residents to become Chester County Water Watchers. The Natural Resource Project of the LWVCC would like to recruit hikers, anglers, birders, boaters, waders--all of you who spend time on the water in Chester County--as our Water Watchers: volunteers who report dirty, troubled water.

Many Chester County rivers and streams suffer water quality problems, so volunteers are asked to note water quality as they fish, paddle, and hike this summer and fall. We need you to be our eyes and ears, and, in case of pollution, contact us or your municipality for further investigation and/or notification of appropriate State authorities.

If you are able to take photos, please do so. A picture is worth a thousand words.

We will post your photos for free, along with your comments. Please include the date, time and location of your troubled waters. Digital photography, please.

The healthyfrog's purpose is to help compile a more complete record of water quality here in our own watersheds. Many of our streams have suffered further degradation this summer from the floods of 2006. Stream erosion, pollution and storm water runoff contribute ito making our streams undrinkable, unfishable and unswimmable.

Sedimentation and loss of oxygen cause fish kills and negatively affect our valued wildlife.

With the help of your eyes on our troubled water we can chart a new water course toward a future of clean, safe water for our families, communities and wildlife.

Frogs Need Clean Air. We Do Too.
Frogs and people - a natural Partnership!

We need to work together. We need to form an Air Quality Partnership to develop ways to safeguard your health from harmful air pollution, ozone, and particulate matter which pool in our atmosphere during the summer months.

High temperatures and sunlight can form a potentially dangerous mixture called ground-level ozone. High levels of ozone irritate lung passages and can cause serious health problems for many people, especially our asthmatic children, seniors, and people with respiratory ailments. Particle pollution, a significant air pollutant in our Pennsylvania region, consists of dust, metals, toxins, and liquids and can be drawn into lungs where they cause wheezing, coughing, and difficulty in breathing, aggravating respiratory ailments such as bronchitis or asthma

Our next step is to develop a partnership, public/private dedicated to improving air quality in our region through initiatives and advisories. We want to encourage people to take the necessary steps to reduce the exposure to harmful pollutants . Together we will find ways to safeguard our health.

We will be providing you with air quality forecasts during this hazy summer months.

Unlike our best friend the frog we cannot breath under water, so let’s work towards Cleaner Air !
